Landis Wolfe contacted us at Brutal Off-Road to build a competition rig for an upcoming Cal Rocs event in Mason Texas. We sat down and planned the entire vehicle's suspension from scratch Landis decided to take a chance with O.E.M. type coils on all four corners, go four link in the rear and 3 link in the front. We also decided to stretch the little Bronco's wheel base to 102.5"
In the beginning there was a lil Bronco
We first disassembled and cleaned the Dana 44 reverse rotation front axle housing to be built
Brutal then installed a Detroit locker and 5:13 gears in the front Dana 44 and the rear Dana 60. Using a spool in the rear.
Here's a picture of the front link mounts and Hi-Steer arms.
All control arms were made using seamless DOM tube, measuring 2"od. X .438" wall
The rod ends used measure 1 1/4" X 1" (greasable) with 78,000 lb. radial load (that's a quarter in the middle for reference).
Here is the center cross member that is tubed thru the frame for maximum strength and support.
Setting up the rear links and checking for correct pinion angle.
A full cage was required for safety and per Cal Rocs rules, so out came the tube bender. Michael used about 120' of 2" mechanical tubing during the build that starts at the front bumper and encases the entire body and drivers area, to the rear of the truck. Check out the one-of-a-kind front rock bar!
